This full color medical illustration depicts the placement of a Schwann-Ganz Catheter into a subclavian vein of a woman. The catheter extends down through the superior vena cava and into the heart, and is used to measure hemodynamics during open heart surgery, particular pulmonary capillary pressure (PCP). The thoracic organs, abdominal organs and major blood vessels are also visible in this drawing.
